E-Bike Testing
As e-bikes take off, safety can’t lag behind.
Poorly designed batteries, chargers and conversion kits can cause fire, explosion and unexpected failure. Independent testing shows that products are safe, reliable and ready for the UK market.
At CPAS we test chargers, batteries, conversion kits and complete e-bikes. From single-component checks to full product assessments, our testing helps you identify risks early, support compliance and build confidence in the products you supply.
Testing is carried out against BS EN 15194, the main standard for electrically power-assisted cycles (EPACs); other standards apply to different products such as mountain bikes. It covers electrical and mechanical safety, charging systems, power management and performance — including motor output, battery behaviour and verifying the legal 25 km/h power-assistance cut-off.
Battery safety
Lithium-ion stores serious energy.
Faults in cells, chargers or battery-management systems can lead to overheating, fire, explosion or complete failure. Battery testing uncovers these weaknesses before products reach consumers, and supports safer design, sourcing and supply.
Short circuit test
Confirms the battery does not overheat, rupture or ignite if a short circuit occurs.
Overcharge test
Verifies the pack withstands charging faults without an unacceptable risk of fire or explosion.
Capacity check
Confirms the stored energy delivered, and flags underperforming, degraded or mis-specified packs.
Independent testing helps protect users, reduce business risk and build confidence in your products. In a fast-moving e-bike market, it’s an essential step in protecting both customers and brands.
